Penn-Mar Human Services is a non-profit healthcare organization searching for dedicated Program Instructors (also known as Direct Support Professional, Resident Assistant, Home Health Aide, CNA) to transform life into living.

Program Instructor, Direct Support Professional, Full Time, $13.00-$15.00 an hour /DOE Day Program- Freeland, MD. The typical schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 7:30am- 3:30pm, OT as needed. 

This Full-Time Direct Support Professional position works in our MD Line Day Program overseeing individuals with Intellectual Disabilities in an instructive and interactive environment. The successful candidate supports our individuals in a variety of ways and is focused on promoting independence while promoting the development of basic life and employment skills. Staff work independently and interact with our individuals, their families and external support network.

Instructors/Direct Support Professionals may work with a dedicated individual in a 1-on-1 situation or in groups of up to 30 members with other staff assistance. The environment can be noisy and highly interactive at times, and Staff will need to stand, walk and sit on a regular basis.

This job is inclusive of, but not excluded to the following duties:

  • Personal Care as needed (to include assistance with toileting, feeding, transfers, etc.)
  • Behavioral Support (to include dealing with potential physical and verbal outbursts/ aggressiveness)
  • Medication Administration (must be able to pass MD Medication Technician training)
  • Applicant must able to lift 50 lbs. as needed
  • Applicant must be able to stand, walk, sit, traverse, kneel, bend from the waist, etc., as needed
  • Applicant must be able to communicate verbally, visually and audibly
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Operating a large passenger van.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma/ G.E.D.
  • Acceptable criminal background.
  • Valid Driver's License with 2 yrs. experience, and less than 3 moving violations (NO Major Violations, D.U.I.'s or Suspensions) in the previous 36 months.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment Drug Screen/ Physical/ Mantoux Test (PPD, TB).
